Glass Sculpting and Casting
My glass sculpting process involves several important steps.
Step 1 - The original artwork is hand sculpted in clay while the client or
a life model sits for me. This process involves 3 to 4, 1 to 2
hour sittings.
Step 2 - A mould is constructed around this original clay sculpture
and the clay is then removed.
Step 3 - Wax is then poured into this mould, resulting in an exact
wax replica of the original clay sculpture. The wax sculpture
is then removed from the mould.
Step 4 - The wax is then cleaned up and design elements added to it.
Step 5 - Another mould is constructed around the finished wax.
Step 6 - The mould is placed into a kiln and glass melted into the
mould. After cooling, the mould is removed from around the
glass.
Step 7 - The glass sculpture is then cold worked to complete the
process.
